MEET THE ARTIST
Hi I’m Nazaret (nah-sah-REHT), an introverted extrovert! Art found me and helped me through some really difficult times in my life, like after sneezing and herniating a disc in my back!
About Me:
I’m a first generation Mexicana! My background is in Psychology and Counseling. I’m one of the 5% of Latina’s with a Masters degree. I’ve had the joy of teaching personal growth classes and have used art to guide many of these classes.
Why art?
I’ve always loved art. As a kid I didn’t have access to art supplies, except in school. As an adult I began to teach myself art techniques. Then when after I graduated my grad program I was about to start my career in academic counseling when I sneezed in the car and felt a pop in my back. This changed everything for me. I could no longer feel part of my right leg, but I was in excruciating pain from my back all the way to my foot. I couldn’t drive because I lost my foot reflex. I had to stop my counseling internship. It took a long time, but after doing physical therapy, acupuncture, and Pilates I regained feeling in my leg. I was able to teach classes focused on life long learning. While I was hurt I found myself painting more and more. It helped my mental health since I was in extreme pain. Finding flow in painting, gaining new skills, and making small accomplishments provided me with bit of peace in an extremely difficult time.
Present day: I love teaching and guiding humans back to themselves using their own internal GPS. That’s why I wanted to combine my love for teaching with teaching art and improving mental health. While I do not provide mental health services, I do believe that I can help support students to finding their own flow and peace through art. In turn this helps improve their daily lives.
Why VIVIRCREATIVIDAD?
Vivir Creatividad translates to live a creative life. It means in every area of life we find either creative solutions or will need to tap into our creativity to survive. When things aren’t working out or that feeling that something needs to change, that’s the moment that living a creative life will show you the way!
What inspires you?
My art is inspired by all things in color and nature! I find joy in creating artwork in watercolor, acrylic, and oil paint that I can later add to everyday objects to spark joy in all aspects of life! I mean who doesn’t want a pretty coffee mug or a fun notebook to write in! Life is pretty hectic and having art to remind you to stop, be in the present moment, experience joy, or rest is important!
